Artist Statement

What happens to your fabric stash after you die? I’m often astonished by the size of people’s fabric collections—far more than can ever be used in a lifetime. How much of it will end up in landfill?

The fabrics in this quilt all came from a stranger’s collection, gifted to me by a friend who knew I love Marcia Derse prints. I challenged myself to try to use it all in a single quilt, determined to not let them malinger in my own stash. The result is a riot of printed and tactile texture, with a grid of small, raised tucks distorting the surface, finished with 625 hand-tied knots in bright pink and yellow yarn.
