Always an early-riser, as a kid I was often up before there was anything showing on television—the screen filled with a test-pattern until 6am when “Davey and Goliath” came on, followed by “Gumby”.
When I got a little older, my parents would allow me and my siblings the rare and truly thrilling treat of eating a Swanson’s TV Dinner on a folding tray while we watched “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” with Marlin Perkins and his buddy, Jim. My favorite frozen meal was the Salisbury Steak that came with mashed potatoes, peas, and some sort of fruit cobbler, all corralled neatly into their own little aluminum partitions.
This quilt’s simple 16-patch blocks in primary colors evoke those childhood days of square-shaped TV sets, test patterns, and the static you often had to put up with when relying on a rooftop antenna.
